Sigma supports multitenancy, allowing you to manage users and resources across multiple Sigma organizations. You might need to separate organizations by cloud, region, business unit, environment (development, staging, production), or by customer to isolate data and users.
Multitenancy lets you create multiple tenant organizations, and take advantage of the strong separation between Sigma organizations to manage tenants separately and independently.
With multitenancy, a parent organization can coordinate sharing settings and documents to tenant organizations. Meanwhile, tenant organizations, their users, and their connections are completely separate from each other with no ability to interact or share data.
What's possible with multitenancy
- Management capabilities: Provision tenants from a parent Sigma organization.
- Configure tenants: Set up tenant organizations with specific authentication, connections, themes and branding, and other settings.
- Share documents: Define deployment policies to manage which documents to deploy to which tenants, and automatically swap sources of the documents to tenant-specific connections.
Considerations
- Any user assigned the Admin account type in your Sigma organization can access and configure tenant organizations.
Requirements
You must be assigned the Admin account type to set up multitenancy and manage tenants.
Start using multitenancy
To start using multitenancy and create and manage tenant organizations from your Sigma organization, do the following:
- In the Administration portal, go to Account and select the General settings tab.
- In the Features section, turn on the Multitenancy toggle.
A Tenants area of the Administration portal appears and you can start creating tenants.
Create a tenant organization
To create a tenant organization:
- In the Administration portal, go to Tenants.
- On the Tenants tab, click Create tenant.
- For Tenant name, specify a name to use for the tenant. The name is appended to the organization slug for your organization. Members of your tenant organization navigate to that URL to sign in to the tenant.
- Click Create.
The tenant organization is created and you can start configuring it.
Configure a tenant organization
After setting up multitenancy and creating at least one tenant, configure the tenant organization.
To access the tenant as an admin and configure the tenant, impersonate the tenant admin:
- In the Administration portal, go to Tenants.
- Locate the tenant that you want to configure, then select More > Open tenant as admin.
Your browser tab loads the tenant organization. You can perform admin tasks in the tenant organization.
Next steps
When you configure a tenant organization, do the following:
- Configure a connection for the tenant.
- Share content with the tenant.
- Set up authentication for each tenant organization.
- Invite users to the tenant.
When you create a tenant, the tenant organization inherits settings from the parent organization. Because a tenant is a Sigma organization, you can configure tenant-specific settings:
- Set up custom workbook themes
- Customize email branding
- Configure export restrictions
- Customize the locale and language used in the organization
Manage tenants
After creating a tenant, you can change the name and URL, and view all teams, account types, and members associated with a tenant:
- In the Administration portal, go to Tenants.
- Locate and select the tenant that you want to manage.
- To change the tenant name, click Edit.
- To review the teams, account types, and members of a tenant organization, review the Tenant Management section, you can:
- Create teams for the tenant organization.
- Create custom account types for your tenant organization.
- View all configured connections for your tenant.
