Assistant in workbooks: new build mode capabilities
In workbooks, Sigma Assistant in build mode now supports the following:
- Treemap charts: Create a treemap chart or convert an existing chart to a treemap.
- Dynamic chips: Add dynamic chips to agent instructions, similar to dynamic text.
- Actions on pivot tables: Configure Move column and Swap column actions on a pivot table, targeting its rows, columns, or values.
API
API impersonation support for running Sigma agents
When using the API with impersonation, you can run Sigma agents as the impersonated user. If you embed Sigma and use impersonation with the API to act as the users of your embedded application, you can run agents on their behalf.
If an agent uses a Call API action as an action tool and the API connector requires per-user OAuth, the action fails to run when impersonating a user.
New API endpoints for swapping sources (Beta)
The following endpoints are now available for swapping the data sources used by workbooks and data models in Sigma:
- Swap workbook source elements (Beta) (
POST /v2/workbooks/:workbookId/swapSourceElements) - Swap data model source elements (Beta) (
POST /v2/dataModels/:workbookId/swapSourceElements)
New API endpoints for managing JWK sets
The following endpoints are now available to create, rotate, and delete JSON Web Key sets that sign JWT bearer tokens for a connection:
- Create a JWK set with an active key (
POST /v2/jwkSets) - List JSON Web Keys in a set (
GET /v2/jwkSets/{jwkSetId}/jsonWebKeys) - Create a JSON Web Key (
POST /v2/jwkSets/{jwkSetId}/jsonWebKeys) - Activate a JSON Web Key (
POST /v2/jwkSets/{jwkSetId}/jsonWebKeys/{jsonWebKeyId}:activate) - Delete a JSON Web Key (
DELETE /v2/jwkSets/{jwkSetId}/jsonWebKeys/{jsonWebKeyId}) - Delete a JWK set (
DELETE /v2/jwkSets/{jwkSetId}) - List JSON Web Keys across the organization (
GET /v2/jsonWebKeys)
Use these endpoints to monitor, manage, and rotate JWK sets programatically.
New field included in response for List sources endpoints
The following endpoints include a new customSqlSourceId option for sources with a type of custom-sql:
- List data model sources (
GET /v2/dataModels/{dataModelId}/sources) - List workbook sources (
GET /v2/workbooks/{workbookId}/sources) - List report sources (
GET /v2/reports/{reportId}/sources)
New option available for Swap report data sources endpoint
The Swap report data sources (POST /v2/reports/{reportId}/swapSources) endpoint now includes a customSqlSourceId option to swap from a custom SQL source. The response includes unswappedSources for sources that were not swapped.
Admin
AI usage dashboard enhancements
The AI usage dashboard and table include the following enhancements:
- Instead of “External User”, email addresses are listed as the user name to help attribute AI usage to embed users.
- Search indexing is an available filter so that you can identify tokens used to create document embeddings in Sigma.
Manage JWT bearer OAuth key sets
Admins can create key sets for OAuth connections to rotate JSON Web Token signing keys before the active key expires. A key set holds the active signing key and an inactive key, so you can rotate keys before the active key expires without changing the JWKS URL.
See Manage JWT bearer OAuth key sets.
Manage frequency presets for materialization schedules (Beta)
Admins can create frequency presets to recommend materialization schedules for your organization. Presets appear in the Frequency dropdown of the Materialization schedules modal. Users can still choose Custom to set a frequency not covered by the presets.
See Manage materialization schedules with frequency presets (Beta).
Provide a reason when denying a protected tag request
When denying a request to tag a document version with a protected tag, you can provide a reason. The reason is included in the email sent to the user who requested the tag, providing context about why the tag request was rejected.
Set data residency region for OpenAI AI provider
If you use OpenAI as your AI provider with Sigma, you can now set a data residency region to use a region-specific endpoint. For more details, see Configure an external AI provider.
Workbook elements
Progress bars and progress rings (GA)
Progress bars and progress rings are now generally available. Build a progress bar or progress ring to display a value as a percentage or proportion of a target value. Progress bars and rings allow you to evaluate your current status in completing a goal, visualize your team’s usage of a budget, and more.
For more information, see Build a progress bar and Build a progress ring.
Updated UI icons
Icons in the Sigma UI have been updated. Some now use a thinner stroke, and some icon colors now match the surrounding text color. Several icons have a brand new design. The change is visual and does not affect functionality.
Updated appearance for segmented controls
Segmented controls now use a Surface color instead of a Highlight color to show the selected segment.
Bug fixes and improvements
-
Archiving a tenant failed with a “Failed to archive tenant(s)” error for some tenants due to inconsistently archived deployment records.
-
Badges are now sentence case instead of all caps. For example,
BETAis nowBetaandENDORSEDis nowEndorsed. -
Sigma now enforces the Manage agents permission when users create Sigma agents through the Sigma MCP server.
-
Sparklines now display correctly for data with null y values instead of rendering an error.
-
Tagging a data model version when the draft contains an input table on a non-OAuth connection no longer fails with an error: “Cannot specify writeback schema when a connection is not backed by OAuth.”
-
Tagging a version and swapping the source of a workbook that contained a Databricks Genie Agent as a tool for a Sigma agent failed with a “Path not found” error.
-
Users now only see the tagged versions of data models that they have access to when selecting a source to use in a document.
-
When using Sigma Assistant, selecting Stop now cancels any query it’s running. Assistant queries also time out after 120 seconds.
