Assistant in build mode: new capabilities

In workbooks, Sigma Assistant in build mode now supports the following:

  • Dynamic dashboard layouts: Design dashboards that default to a dynamic layout featuring a prominent hero chart or KPI alongside other elements of varied widths and height. This design creates a visual hierarchy that’s easier to scan and emphasizes key charts and metrics.
  • Page duplication: Duplicate a page, including its width, background color, header, sidebar, and synced controls.
  • Page and container background images: Configure background images on pages and containers, including image source, fit, and alignment.
  • Waterfall charts: Create a waterfall chart to compare the positive and negative changes across categories over time.
  • Progress bars and rings: Create a progress bar or ring to show progress toward a goal. Convert between shapes, set progress as a percentage or bounded value, and configure formatting, text, and color rules.
  • Workbook layout settings: Enable a custom mobile layout independent of the desktop layout (Custom mobile layout setting), and show the layout grid while building (Always show grid setting).

Send Claude dashboards to Sigma

You can ask Claude to prototype a dashboard, and then send the draft to Sigma using the Sigma MCP server, where it becomes a governed, shareable workbook or app.

For more information, see the announcement from Anthropic.

API

Build workbooks with the Sigma MCP server

You can now build workbooks from natural language using an AI assistant connected to the Sigma MCP server.

For more information on new Sigma MCP server tools and the permissions required to access them, see Use the Sigma MCP server.

New API endpoints for managing storage integrations

The following endpoints are now available to manage storage integrations in Sigma, both for audit logging and in general:

And for audit log storage integrations:

Represent stack containers in the code representation of a workbook (Beta)

You can now read and write a code representation for stack containers using the Sigma REST API.

For more information, see Manage workbooks as code.

Admin

Audit log events for new users

The Sigma Audit Logs connection now includes a USER_CREATED event type that logs events related to new users and managing users.

For more details, see Audit log events and metadata.

Workbook elements

Stack layout for containers (GA)

You can use the Stack layout type to create containers that change their layouts responsively as you add new elements. Similar to the CSS Flexible Box Layout Model, stacks arrange all elements automatically based on a specified layout direction, distribution, and alignment, rather than requiring you to manually place each element in a grid.

For more information, see Use stacks to make responsive layouts.

Workbook features

Split a workbook download by control values (Beta)

When downloading workbook data, you can split the download using list control values, and recieve a link to a zip file with one filtered file per value. This allows you to send customized data to different recipients.

For more information, see Download workbook data.

Bug fixes and improvements

  • Sigma now uses the latest IANA time zone database when processing new CSV uploads. This update ensures dates and times are correct for time zones with recent rule changes, including the move to year-round daylight time for America/Vancouver and America/Edmonton.
