Sort Permanence
Dashboard visualization sorting is session dependent. This means that iff you refresh your browser window or publish a dashboard in Edit mode, your visualization's sort order will be reset. Similarly, other viewers of the dashboard will not see your dashboard level sort selections.
If you are a dashboard author with edit permissions on the visualization's underlying worksheet, you may choose to apply a sort order directly on the worksheet visualization. This sort order will be automatically inherited by all dashboards displaying the visualization.
Sorting Table Charts
Sort a Single Column
- Open the dropdown menu on the column you would like to sort.
- Select 'Ascending' or 'Descending'.
This will override any existing column sorting in the table.
Sort Multiple Columns
- Open the dropdown menu on the column you would like to sort.
- Select 'Sorting...' to open the multi-sort model.
Please note: The column that you opened the modal from will automatically be added to the list of sorted columns. - To add additional columns to the sort order, click the '+ Add New' text button in the modal footer.
To remove a single column from the sort order, click the x icon button to the right of the column.
Please note: Sort hierarchy is defined by the columns' order in the list. Columns higher in the sort list take precedence. - Click 'Apply' to apply the sort rules.
Clear Sorting
- Open the dropdown menu on the column you would like to sort.
- Select 'Sorting...' to open the multi-sort model.
- To clear sorting on a single column, click the x icon button to the right of the column.
To clear all sorting in the table, click the blue 'Clear All' text button. - Click 'Apply'.
Sorting Pivot Tables
Sorting Columns and Rows
- Open the dropdown menu on the column or row field you wish to sort.
- In the dropdown menu, you can select a Sort Order and Sort By criteria. Suggested "sort by" options include the original data source order, row count, and the table's Value field(s) (see "sum(Weekly Sales)" in the screenshot above).
Please note: Worksheets support additional sorting options for pivot tables. Learn more.
Sorting Pivot Tables with Groups
Some pivot tables contain multiple grouped worksheet columns plotted on the Column and/or Row field(s). A demonstration of sorting grouped pivot tables can be found in our Pivot Table documentation.
