# Cursor spend template

> Monitor your organization's Cursor spend and usage with an executive cost overview, adoption metrics, and model, user, and department activity details.

You can use the Cursor spend template to monitor your organization's Cursor spend and usage. If your Cursor cost and usage data is stored in a data platform connected to Sigma, you can use the Cursor spend template to review an executive cost overview, adoption metrics, and model, user, and department activity details.

The template is set up with sample data, so you can explore the analysis before you connect your own data.

## System and user requirements

The ability to use the Cursor spend template requires the following:

* You must be assigned an account type with the **Create, edit, and publish workbooks** permission enabled.
* To use your own data, your organization must be connected to a data platform containing your Cursor usage and spend tables (see [Data sources](#data-sources)). Otherwise, you can use the template with the provided sample data.
* To use the department views, you must supply a users table that maps each user to a department.

## Data sources

The template expects data from Cursor's Admin API (`/teams` endpoints), which returns data for a single team. The template uses sample tables in the Sigma Sample Connection, but you can change the source to your organization's own data if it exists in your data platform.

Retrieve the relevant data from the endpoints listed in the following table (see [Cursor's Admin API documentation](https://cursor.com/docs/account/teams/admin-api)), then load it into your data platform. The Cursor spend template expects the data in the following structure:

| Table | Cursor endpoint | Details |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------ | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| `CURSOR_USAGE_EVENTS` | `/teams/filtered-usage-events` | Individual usage events with model details, token counts, and per-event cost. Used for the model and token details. |
| `CURSOR_DAILY_USAGE` | `/teams/daily-usage-data` | Daily aggregated usage metrics by user, including requests and lines of code added and deleted. Used for the user activity details. |
| `CURSOR_MEMBERS` | `/teams/members` | The team members in your Cursor organization, joined to the usage and spend data to add user context. |
| `CURSOR_SPEND` | `/teams/spend` | Spend data by user and time period. Used for every spend key performance indicator (KPI), the trend, and the department and model details. |
| Your users table | N/A | Maps each user to a department. Replaces the sample users table used for the spend-by-department view\.1 |

1 Cursor does not provide department or org-structure data. To populate the **Spend by Department** details, replace the sample users table in the template with your own data using the same column names so the join and template elements continue to work.

> **Note**
>
> We recommend that you build tables in your data platform from the Cursor Admin API endpoints listed in this section before you swap sources in the template. The source swap matches those tables to the template.

## Create a workbook from the template

To create a workbook from this template:

1. Go to **Home** > **Templates**, then select the **AI Cost Monitoring: Cursor** template to review its details.
2. Click **Use template**. The template opens as an [exploration](/docs/ad-hoc-data-explorations) named after the template using sample data.
3. To use your own data, click **Change sources**:

In the **Swap data sources overview** modal, Sigma attempts to match each source to your own tables. If you store the data from the Cursor API in tables that follow the structure in [Data sources](#data-sources), most sources match automatically after you select the relevant schema.

   1. To replace a matched source, select the source drop-down menu, then select a new source.
   2. Match the sample users table to your own users table.
   3. Click **Swap now**, then explore the changes to confirm your data looks correct.
4. In the **Filters** menu, set the **Date Range** to scope the page to the period you care about.
5. To create an editable, publishable document, in the document header, click **Save as**, then name and save the workbook.

For more details, see [Create documents from templates](/docs/create-workbooks-from-templates).

## About this template

The template contains an Executive overview page and an Adoption & activity page. The template also includes a README page to document the purpose of the template, source tables, and setup steps.

### Executive overview

This page answers "How much is Cursor costing us?" and includes:

* **Monthly Spend**, **Cost Per User**, and **Monthly Active Users** KPIs, each with the period-over-period change
* A stacked bar chart of monthly spend by department
* **Spend & Requests Over Time**, a combination chart of monthly spend and total requests
* **Top 5 Departments by Spend**, with a **Show** control for the number of results and a **Spend By** toggle for **Model**, **Kind**, **User**, or **Department**

### Adoption & activity

This page answers "Who is using Cursor, and on which models?" and includes:

* **Spend by Model Name**, a bar chart of total spend per model
* **Model Detail**, a table of spend, tokens in, tokens out, average cost per request, and share of total by model
* **Spend by User**, a bar chart of the top users by spend
