# Create a Sigma table from an input table (Beta)

> Create a Sigma table from an input table to share data with workbooks and external tools. Sigma writes edits back to your data platform.

> **Note**
>
> This documentation describes one or more public beta features that are in development. Beta features are subject to quick, iterative changes; therefore the current user experience in the Sigma service can differ from the information provided in this page.
>
> This page should not be considered official published documentation until Sigma removes this notice and the beta flag on the corresponding feature(s) in the Sigma service. For the full beta feature disclaimer, see [Beta features](/docs/sigma-product-releases#beta-features).

Create a Sigma table from an input table to make the data accessible to other tools, systems, and services connected to your data platform. This option is available for input tables only and is not supported by linked input tables.

When you create a Sigma table from an input table, Sigma writes the input table data and subsequent edits to a database table in a schema you select. Sigma then adds a Sigma table to the workbook as an independent element alongside the original input table. The new Sigma table can be used organization-wide, and its data is available to external systems through the underlying database table in your data platform.

This page explains how to create a Sigma table from an input table. For general information about Sigma tables and how they work, see [Sigma tables overview](/docs/sigma-tables-overview). To create a Sigma table from an existing connection table instead, see [Enable write access on a connection table](/docs/enable-write-access-connection-tables).

> **Info**
>
> Sigma tables are currently supported by Snowflake, Databricks, and PostgreSQL connections.

## Requirements

To create a Sigma table from an input table:

* You must be granted **Can create table** access to the schema you want to create the Sigma table in.
* You must be assigned an [account type](/docs/account-type-and-license-overview) with the **Can create, edit, and publish workbooks** and **Can create warehouse views** permissions enabled.
* You must be the workbook owner or have **Can edit** [workbook access](/docs/folder-and-document-permissions).
* The data source must be an input table, not a linked input table.

> **Info**
>
> When you create a Sigma table from an input table, Sigma automatically generates and manages the primary key. An existing primary key is not required.

## Create a Sigma table from an input table

Create a Sigma table from an input table to make the data reusable across Sigma documents and external systems.

> **Info**
>
> The resulting Sigma table is independent of the source input table, meaning the input table is unaffected and continues to work as before. You can edit or delete either object without affecting the other.

1. Open a workbook draft and locate the input table you want to use.
2. In the input table element toolbar, click ![](https://sigma-docs-screenshots.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Icons/more.svg) **More** to open the element menu, then select **Advanced options** > **Create Sigma table**.
3. Complete the fields in the **Create Sigma table** modal:
   1. In the **Table name** field, enter a name for the Sigma table.
   2. In the **Schema** field, select the schema where Sigma must write the database table.
The dropdown includes only schemas where you are granted **Can create table** access. If the dropdown is empty, you have not been granted this access in any of the connection's schemas, and you cannot create the Sigma table.
4. Click **Create** to generate the Sigma table.

## Verify the Sigma table sync

Verify that the Sigma table synced successfully to your data platform.

1. In the workbook, select the Sigma table element.
2. Open the **Properties** panel to view the data source.
3. In the **Data source** section, click the down arrow (![](https://sigma-docs-screenshots.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/Icons/caret.svg)) next to the Sigma table's name, then select **View table** in the menu.
If the data catalog opens the Sigma table, the sync has successfully completed.
