# Checklist for new Sigma admins

When onboarding onto a new Sigma organization, there are several key configurations admins should set up to get the most value out of Sigma. This document is a checklist of the most important items you should configure within your first 30 days in Sigma.

For information on how to access the Administration portal, admin abilities and common administration tasks, see [Administer Sigma](/docs/administer-sigma).

## Authenticate into your organization

### Set up organization authentication

<p>
  Ensure users in your organization can sign in to Sigma securely and reliably.
</p>

By default, your organization uses password authentication. Work with your IT team to select and configure a more secure authentication method. See [Authentication methods for your Sigma organization](/docs/organization-authentication-methods) for available methods.

## Set up organization essentials

Set the foundations for your organization by configuring data platform connections, enabling key AI features, and managing users, teams, and workspaces.

### Access and secure your data

<p>
  Connect Sigma to your data platforms.
</p>

Work with your database administrator to set up connections so that Sigma can communicate with the data platforms you need to use. See [Connect to data sources](/docs/connect-to-data-sources).

Set up audit logging so you can view data on user-initiated events within your Sigma organization. See [Enable or disable audit logging](/docs/enable-audit-logging).

### Set up tools for Builders

<p>
  Ensure you have access to the AI features and tools your organization and Builders need to be effective.
</p>

Set up write access so that Sigma can write back to your data platform. This is required before your organization can use key features like [input tables](/docs/intro-to-input-tables), [materialization](/docs/materialization), and [CSV uploads](/docs/upload-csv-data). Collaborate with your database administrator to ensure you have the correct permissions in your data platform. See [Set up write access](/docs/set-up-write-access).

Set up an AI provider for your organization so users can use features like [Sigma Agents](/docs/sigma-agents) and [Sigma Assistant](/docs/ask-natural-language-queries-with-assistant), and build [AI apps](/docs/ai-apps). See [Configure an AI provider](/docs/configure-ai-features-for-your-organization#configure-an-ai-provider).

API connectors enable you to use [**Call API** actions](/docs/create-actions-that-call-api-endpoints) and are essential for building AI apps. See [Configure API credentials and connectors in Sigma](/docs/configure-api-credentials-and-connectors-in-sigma).

Configure an external storage integration using a customer-owned bucket for full control over where your data lives, who has access to it, how long it's retained, and how it's encrypted. See [External storage integration overview](/docs/external-storage-integration-overview).

### Manage users, teams, and workspaces

<p>
  Configure necessary account types and set up department management with teams and workspaces.
</p>

Understand how account types and licenses work in Sigma. See [Account type and license overview](/docs/account-type-and-license-overview).

If you need to provide users access that isn't covered by the default [license tiers](/docs/account-type-and-license-overview), create custom account types. See [Create and manage account types](/docs/create-and-manage-account-types).

Set up a combination of [user attributes](/docs/user-attributes) to manage row-level security and [dynamically assign roles](/docs/dynamically-assign-roles-used-by-a-connection), [row-level security](/docs/set-up-row-level-security) to restrict access based on the characteristics of the user viewing the data, and [column-level security](/docs/column-level-security) to protect sensitive data as needed.

Create teams for specific departments or roles in your organization so that you can grant access and permissions to multiple users at once. See [Create and manage teams](/docs/manage-teams).

Create workspaces to organize folders and documents by team or function. See [Manage workspaces](/docs/manage-workspaces).

Start inviting users to your organization. See [Invite new users to your organization](/docs/invite-new-organization-members).

## Customization and housekeeping

After setting up the essentials, customize your organization's settings and branding to match your company's needs, and get access to additional security and support resources.

### Security and support management

<p>
  Get access to self-serve security documents.
</p>

Contact your Customer Success Manager to request access to the [Sigma Security Portal](https://security.sigmacomputing.com/) for your security team.

Contact your Customer Success Manager to request access to the [Sigma Support Portal](https://support.sigmacomputing.com/hc/) so that you can view and track support tickets for your organization.

### Customization and branding

<p>
  Tailor your organization's settings and branding to match your company's needs.
</p>

Match your company branding by configuring workbook themes with custom colors, fonts, layout styles, and more. See [Create and manage workbook themes](/docs/create-and-manage-workbook-themes).
